The Armageddon Apocalypse
December 21, 2012
December 21st, 2012 arrives next Friday! Are you ready?
December 21, 2012 has become a byword for peoples’ expectation that either Armageddon or the Great Apocalypse will occur on that date. Will the world end tomorrow? Will the waves rise so high that both east and west coasts disappear? Will the big one hit San Francisco, Los Angeles, and parts in between? I do not believe this will happen, and firmly admonish anyone from setting dates. While it would be humanly wonderful to set a date, and say Yeshua is coming on that specific date or that the world will end on such and such a date, any study of scripture will prove that such a deduction is neither appropriate nor possible. Yeshua himself has stated – “No one knows when that day or time will be, not the angels in heaven, not even the Son. Only the Father knows.” (Matthew 24:36-44)
Though we cannot state the day or hour, Yeshua, twice, was just as clear that we can know the season – “Behold the fig tree and all the trees; as soon as they put forth leaves, you see it and know for yourselves that summer is now near.” (Luke 21:29) and again, “Learn a lesson from the fig tree: When its branches become green and soft and new leaves appear, you know summer is near. In the same way, when you see all these things happening, you will know that the time is near, ready to come.” (Matthew 24:32-33)
The word know,γιvωtσκω [ginoðskoð G1097], is a prolonged form of a primary verb; to Aknow@ (absolutely). It means: to allow, to be aware of, to be sure, to understand. The word translated near, ε’γγυtς [eggus G1451], means literally or figuratively: of place or time which is at hand, near, nigh (at hand, unto), ready. The word time,καιρotς [kairos G2540], means: an occasion, a set or proper time, opportunity, or season. It always designates a fixed or special occasion.
More about The Trees
That being said, let’s look at some of the events which people claim indicates that the end will happen on or near the December 21, 2012 date:
The Mayan Long Count Calendar points to this date as the end of one cycle and the beginning of a new cycle. The Long Count Calendar was a measure of “world age cycles” that repeat over and over again. This calendar was divided into five units or cycles that started with the mythical date for the creation of the Mayas, and will end December 21, 2012.
The Aztec God, Ehecatl-Quetzalcoatl is the patron god of the Aztec priesthood, god of winds, of Venus, of the dawn, of merchants and of arts, crafts and knowledge. The Aztecs speak of five epochs of time. The fifth epoch heralds the end of one way of existence and the return of another, in which the serpent god Quetzalcoatl reigns anew, bringing with him a wholly new way of living.
The Islamic Mahdi is an unparalleled political, military and religious leader that will emerge in the last-days, and is often referred to as the Twelfth (Hidden) Imam. According to the tradition, Imam Ali Ibn Abi-Talib prophesied that just before the return of the Mahdi at the End of Times a “tall black man will assume the reins of government in the West.” Commanding “the strongest army on earth,” the new ruler in the West will carry “a clear sign” from t Ali Ibn Abi-Talib. Many Muslims, including Iranian Ayatollah Ali Khomeini and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, therefore conclude that the reappearance of the Mahdi is imminent.
The Native American peoples also have numerous End Times Prophecies. The Iroquois and Mohawk Prophecies say the end of the world will be near when the trees start dying, when nothing will grow in the garden, when water will be filthy and unfit to drink, and when there would be diseases we’d never heard of before. The Hopi and Cherokee Prophecies predict that the earth will be shaken.
On December 21, 2012 at 11:11am according to NASA charts, the Sun will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way for the 1st time in 26,000 years, and some have theorized that this cosmic event will cause the earth’s poles to reverse, resulting in major catastrophes. This day is also the day of the Winter Solstice.
The National Center for Atmospheric Research states that 2012 will be a peak year for the sun’s cycle and we should expect an increase in solar flares. These flares could be so intense that they would devastate the power grids and electronic devices world wide.
Some of the predictions of Nostradamus, Mother Shipton, Merlin, Edgar Cayce, Jeane Dixon, the Cherokee and Hopi Indians, St. Malachy, and others may indicate predictions of the end of the world in 2012.
The I-Ching graph line, produced by Terrance and Dennis McKenna in 1973, abruptly falls off the chart on December 21, 2012. The high and low parts of the graph line appear to correspond to major historical events.
Michael Drosnin: Michael Drosnin’s book, Bible Code, states that the words, “earth annihilated” appear next to the year 2012 due to a collision with a meteor, comet, or perhaps even Planet X.
Even the WebBot Project, which was created to help investors track and make stock market predictions, mysteriously began to predict world events. It has predicted global devastation in late December 2012 as a result of a shift in the magnetic poles.
Another Great Deception
Perhaps you’ve seen the November 2009 blockbuster “2012”, or watched the History Channel offering: “Doomsday 2012: The End Of Days”. You may have even watched some of the older movies like the 1998 movies, “Armageddon” starring Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton, Ben Affleck, and Liv Tyler, or “Deep Impact” starring Robert Duvall, Elijah Wood, Téa Leoni, and Morgan Freeman. Or perhaps in 2004 you enjoyed “The Day After Tomorrow” with Dennis Quaid as Jack Hall, Jake Gyllenhaal as Sam Hall, and Emmy Rossum as Laura Chapman! The main plot of these movies describe the attempts to prepare for and destroy a comet or a gigantic asteroid which is expected to collide with the Earth and cause a mass extinction, or to escape from cataclysmic events unfolding in the year 2012 due to extreme climactic changes.
Russian travel agencies are selling trips to heaven or hell. Thousands of people are stocking up with food, fuel and other supplies. Some are even moving outside of cities. Hysteria seems to be the order of the day, not just in Russia, but around the world. The preppers are really busy hyping the need to “be prepared” with every conceivable item one might need when disaster strikes. Doomsday kits are available from dozens of retailers and web sales sites.
I found a couple of cartoons years ago which spoofed the Mayan calendar: I found a couple of cartoons years ago which spoofed the Mayan calendar: The first cartoon had one Mayan asking “So how come it ends in 2012?” and a second saying “I ran out of space on the rock!” The second cartoon also had two Mayans saying “I only had enough room to go up to 2012” and “Ha! That’ll freak somebody out someday.”
The Biblical Answer
While theories that the world may end on December 21, 2012 might sound scary, the Bible teaches that the world has been established forever, that the world never ends, that it continues forever. There are, according to scholars, over one hundred verses that confirm this. Below are just a few of those verses:
Psalm 78:69 ― “And He built His sanctuary like the heights, Like the earth which He has established forever.”
Psalm 104:5 ― “You laid the foundation of the earth, that it should not be removed forever.”
Psalm 119:90 ― “Your faithfulness endures to all generations; You established the earth, and it abides.”
Psalm 148:6 ― “He also established them forever and ever; He made a decree which shall not pass away.”
Isaiah 9:6-7 ― “Yeshua’s authority shall grow continually, and there shall be endless peace for the throne of David and his kingdom. He will establish and uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time onward and forevermore.”
Isaiah 45:17 ― “But Israel shall be saved in the Lord with an everlasting salvation: they will never again be humiliated and disgraced, world without end.”
Ecclesiastes 1:4 ― “One generation passes away and another generation comes: but the earth abides forever.”
Daniel 2:44 ― “And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed . . . and it shall stand for ever.”
Daniel 7:13-14 ― The Son Of Man is given a kingdom which shall not pass away, which shall not be destroyed.
Ephesians 3:21 ― “Unto him be glory in the church by Mashiach Yeshua throughout all ages, world without end.”
Luke 1:33 ― “Yeshua shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.”
As Martin Luther would ask: “What then, does this mean?” While theories that the world may end on December 21, 2012 might sound scary, the Bible teaches that the world has been established forever. What, then, could this date point to? Luke 21:26 tells us: “ . . .the powers of heaven shall be shaken”. The end of the age is nearing, the season of Christ’s return is near.” The specific date of Yeshua’s return cannot be stated. The season of His return, however, is here. Why then, do so many people put their faith in the above prophecies and spend time with horoscopes, astrology, and other such occult practices?
Prophecy continues to unfold as foretold by the Hebrew prophets. The stage is being set. That being said, one can only ask: “How imminent is the return of Yeshua Ha’Mashiach?
