The Sign of Jonah and The Leviathan
When Jesus was asked by the religious leaders to show them a sign, he said that the only sign that would be shown would be the sign of Jonah! And what was the sign of Jonah? You’ve got it: a whale that swallowed Jonah, from Joppa, and then spat Jonah up three days later!
This sign of the whale was given during what is called the second redemption cycle for the Jews. Today we are in what they call the third redemption cycle. A number of articles earlier this year detailed the sighting of a gray whale off the coast of Israel, near Joppa, for the first time in 300 years. If the sign of Jonah was a sign of redemption when Christ was alive, could this be yet another sign that Christ in near?
But wait, there’s more. Germany sold a number of submarines to Israel several years ago, and one of them is named: “Leviathan”. Psalm 104:25 tells us that in the seas, “There the ships sail about; There is that Leviathan which You have made to play there.” Job 41:19-21 tells us that “19Out of his mouth go burning lights; 20Sparks of fire shoot out. Smoke goes out of his nostrils, As from a boiling pot and burning rushes. 21His breath kindles coals, And a flame goes out of his mouth.” And Job 41:30-32 says: “30His undersides are like sharp potsherds; He spreads pointed marks in the mire. 31He makes the deep boil like a pot; He makes the sea like a pot of ointment. 32He leaves a shining wake behind him . . . “

One can only ask: “How close are we to the return of Christ?”
In all truth it seems that many are over-looking the true sign of Jonah, which is in fact a whale, but not an actual one. All over America cars are littered with the sign of Jonah, key-chains, T-shirts, it’s everywhere, the fish emblem with the incomplete tail. That is simply the sign of Jonah and I would be curious to know why it has made a comeback in the last years…what may have sparked the use of it.
As to the submarine, that seems over-reaching, the book of Job as well as other books of the Apocrypha denote it as a sea monster, but definitely a living creature, as is the behemoth. It is definitely an interesting correlation and could be deemed as more than coincidence but that is simply all it is. I could name a Bass Boat Leviathan and give it to them and it would make no difference.
All criticism aside, I commend you for going to such great lengths to procure apocalyptic signs, but you may want to change the year from 2012 to 2017, which is the last year of Jubilee as notated in the book of Leviticus, so to be technical it could happen in 2012, it could happen today, or it could wait another 56 years from today as long as we do not hit the next year of Jubilee in 2067. Just thought I would share that, I don’t know whether or not you have posted on it, if not some research on the topic would make for a great article.

Perhaps these many “signs” of Jonah today are shadows pointing to the season of Christ’s return, and that is just one more way that God is saying to us, “I am near, even at the door”.
Sometimes it is fun to “stretch” the imagination and think “outside” the box. As stated on my “About” page, Understanding the Times is an simply an overview of end times teachings for study and discussion that attempts to take the teachings of many of today’s scholars and put them in one place. The more discussion, the better! I find it fascinating that the descriptions of Leviathan can be linked to a modern submarine, just as the descriptions of devastation in Revelation can be linked to nuclear war. One thing we must never forget is that God regularly uses nations and humans to discipline His people, making such links strong possibilities. Again, topics to engender study and discussion.

I recall that story about the whale showing up off the coast of Israel. It was big buzz then in the prophecy community.
However, this about the submarine, now that is new news to me and most intriguing…I’ve read that story in Job a few times and never until this very moment would I have likened that to a submarine. Too amazing for words!!!
